Château Mongenan is an 18th Century Château with remarkable gardens and a museum, listed as a historical monument. The collection of Mme. Mothe’s family begins around 300 years ago and for history lovers is amazing.  She also has a very fine collection of Free Masonary. Her knowledge is endless and she personally guides visitors through the museum which is housed in the former stables.

We suggest arriving at 10.45 to start the visit at 11.00

There are two parts to the visit, the museum and the gardens and if we are more then 15 the group will be divided into two, one starting with the museum and the other with the gardens.

After the visit we will drive to Podensac for lunch at the Trois Musquetaires.  Cost of the visit 10€ including a tasting.   Cost of the 3 course lunch including coffee and a bottle of wine between four is 19€.

WALK & LUNCH, THURSDAY 11TH JULY 2019, MIOS.

How about a little exercise followed by some lunch?  We have organised a walk in the beautiful woods by the river L’Eyre in Mios.   The footpaths are well defined and level, it is not too strenuous and will take approx.imately 1 hour 30 mins to walk the 5 kms.

Meet at the restaurant/hotel Lo’Berge in Mios from 10 am where morning refreshments can be purchased.  We aim to leave at 10.30am  to start our walk.   Lunch has been organised back at the restaurant.  Lunch (menu of the day) including wine and coffee will be 16 – 19 euros.

Arcachon Visit & Lunch in Market Square Tuesday 4th June 2019

Here is an opportunity to visit or re-visit the “winter town” of Arcachon and discover the history of the ” Parc Mauresque” and some of the old “villas” which made  Arcachon such a popular resort.

We will gather in the market square at 10 am where, Christine, the organiser of this event will give us some information on the history of the market.  We will then walk over to the lift at the foot of the high quarter, ride up and enjoy a leisurely guided tour of the park and the elegant villas in this area .

We will make our way back to the market in the beautifully restored square and settle down to lunch outside or inside the covered market depending on the weather!!

The menu following the visit of Arcachon “winter town” will be a bit of a surprise because as it will take place in the market, it will depend on what is available and fresh on the day! There will be a choice of fish or meat with the day’s vegetables,cafe gourmand and wine,all for the price of 20 euros per person. When you book, please indicate your choice of main course.

Following lunch you are free to explore Arcachon, shop, sunbathe on the beach, stroll along the Bassin, go home or whatever else takes your fancy!

… discovering a lake attraction called “CABLE PARC” where very fit people in wetsuits come to enjoy water sports activities called “Jetski” …..

… further along are another two small lakes in a figure of 8 which are ideal for a long walk for some or, shorter walk for others The choice is ours.

Bring along your pooch as it’s great walk for dogs !

The picnic area is in the trees, enjoying a lovely view of the fishing lake. An excellent day of gentle exercise and fresh air in the country… further details nearer the date.

BBC Golf event at Gujan Mestras 9th April

Golf: Gujan Mestras- Tuesday 9th April

URGENT ! URGENT !  Calling all golfers.

The next BBC golf event is planned for Tuesday 9th April at Gujan Mestras, near Arcachon. We need a group of 10 players to secure reduced rates. In view of the success of our recent trip to Lacanau, we plan to repeat the formula of 9 holes from 9h30 followed by a group lunch at 12 noon.  Keen players may prefer 18 holes in the afternoon. Remember that non-players or friends of members are invited to walk the course or hire a « buggie ». Please note the terrain is basically flat.

All Saints Spring Party


All Saints Spring Party: Moustey – Saturday 27th April

‘Why celebrate only St George?’ has been the question posed by some members. So this year it will be a celebration of our other patron saints, St Andrew, St David and though we will already have celebrated, St Patrick in the time honoured way, we will let him join in too!!

The celebration starts at midday with an aperitif followed by a 3 course lunch which will include entree, fish and chips and choice of dessert. Wine is not included so please bring your own.

Marilyn will guide any  ‘volunteers’ through some country dancing if your consumption of fish and chips allow it !

Remember Burns Night? there were over 50 stumbling along to Marilyn’s excellent instruction!  If you’re feeling less than energetic you can sit on the side line, listen to the music, tap your toes and prepare to be amused by the efforts of others or have snooze!


Our Host

Our hosts this year are Nigel B and Sami, his beautiful home is set in the Les Landes forest and just a 35 minute drive from the Rocade.

This is a day to be enjoyed in a country garden setting for you to enjoy as you wish.

Last year we were over booked and had a waiting list. So as not to be disappointed, please book as soon as possible particularly as this event is a weekend event.


Format for the day

The day starts at 12 noon to enjoy an aperitif together before settling down to a three course lunch.

Directions

Nigel lives in the beautiful countryside near the pretty village of Moustey just 35 minutes down the A63 from the Rocade.  Full directions will be supplied after booking.

Moustey is a good jumping off point for further exploration’ there are some Chambre d’Hote rooms in and around the village, the Logis Hotel Le Grandousier is 7 kms away.

The Mira brewery, based in La Teste-de-Buch for two years, won four gold medals and one silver medal at the World Beer Awards 2018 , which took place in London.

We will visit this large modern brewery and brasserie where our English guide will take us through the entire unique production of beers and soft drinks using the local eau de source with no nitrates or pesticides.

After our tour we will will have a tasting session in the restaurant followed by a three course lunch where we will enjoy local produce freshly cooked and served by charming and friendly staff.

The Brasserie is also very close to a huge new shopping centre for those shopaholics amongst us !

We have organised several of these cooking workshops in the past and they are always good fun and very popular particularly the part at the end when everyone enjoys eating the results !

The workshop is at L’Atelier des Chefs which has eight establishments in major cities across France. Workshops are available for many different types of cooking and cater (excuse the pun!) for all levels of skil !

The workshop is in conjunction with the Costa Rican Institute of Tourism and involves a short introduction by the chef, in french, to learn how to prepare and cook the dish which will be Piquillos farcis et purée de patate douce. After the introduction you will prepare and cook the dish and then enjoy the results together in the adjacent dining area.

The ingredients are provided and dessert is included for 17€ excluding wine.  Or 22€ including wine

We aim to start our 2019 BBC golf season on Monday 18th February at the delightful Ardilouse course in Lacanau,

We need to have a minimum of 8 players to obtain a reduced fee of 36 euros (18 holes) and 24 euros (9 holes).

Tee off times at:

9.30 for 9 holes starting from the 10th hole

1.15pm for 18 holes starting from 1st hole.

This arrangement will allow us to have a group lunch about 12 noon,

Remember that non-players or friends of members are invited to walk the course or hire a « buggie »

Please note the terrain is basically flat and offers splendid views over the surrounding forest.
