‘’Beating about Tourny/Tournons autour de Tourny’’ with Alain
A forceful character and brilliant administrator, Tourny remodelled Bordeaux between 1743 and 1757. One of his ideas was the ‘’cours” from the Toulouse/Bayonne roads (place de la Victoire) to the harbour by the Chartrons via Place Gambetta, a modern ringroad enabling fast transport of goods and providing modern housing for the bourgeois and a tree-lined promenade to boot.
The walk offers insights into 200 years of Bordeaux history.
Meeting place and time: 14.00 at Le Plana on Place de la Victoire, walk round the Cours to Place Tourny. Optional lunch at 12.30 at Le Plana on Place de la Victoire (2-course menu du jour and coffee for 18€).
