Following the very successful visit of two years ago, a second visit to the Moon Harbour Whisky Distillery has been organised for Thursday 12th March 2020 at 11.00 am.
The Moon Harbour Distillery owes its name to the famous crescent moon outlined by the Garonne River in the heart of Bordeaux. The distillery is the innovation of two entrepreneurs and whisky enthusiasts, Phillippe Balanger and Yves Medina, who joined forces with experienced whisky blender, Scotsman, John McDougall.
Situated in the Bacalan district of Bordeaux, the distillery produces several different whiskies as well as a gin. The site is impressive as the cellars are in a large WWII bunker next to the modern distillery. Moon Harbour also has 250 hectares of barley planted in the region for its production of a single malt.
The guided tour, which is in English, will last between 1 hour and 1 hour 30 minutes and includes a presentation of Moon Harbour, and visits to the raw material storage area (explanations of malting
and whisky production), the cuverie, still room, ageing cellar (a Second World War bunker), as well as a tasting of 3 whiskies and 1 gin. The cost of the tour including the 4 tastings is 15 euros per person.
For those who would like lunch, we are proposing the Grill Courte-Paille, 2 Rue du Professor Darget, 33300 Bordeaux, The grill is no more than 10 minutes walk from the distillery (quicker by car sharing). As it is an informal lunch each person will pay for themselves. Please let Pamela know by email to email@example.com if you would like to be included in the lunch.
