Picasso, l’effervescence des formes – 15th April to 28th August 28 2022 – explores the place of wine and popular drinks in Pablo Picasso’s work through a wide variety of themes and creations such as paintings, drawings, ceramics, films…). Group entrance fee to Cité du Vin 10€ per person (10 participants or less), 8€ over 10 participants + 8€ p.p. exhibition fee. Guide fee for exhibition visit 150€ (optional)..

How to get there: TRAM B

Meeting time and place: 10.15am to 10.30am at the entrance of Cité du Vin. Cité du Vin opens at 10.00.

Lunch will be at the Les Halles de Bacalan complex across the road. Information will be supplied later.

Afternoon – Why not enjoy a mini-cruise to Lormont and back on the Batcub afterwards? We’ve done it the other way round. Or a shopping spree at nearby Quai des Marques on the riverside? NOT guided… Or a walk round the new Bacalan district. Open-bar.

Car parks at Quai des Marques, not cheap. Best bet again is to board a tram from a Parc Relais and get to tram B (from Hôtel de Ville for Tram A, from Quinconces for trams C/D). The Batcub voyage is paid from the Bx Métropole standard tickarte.

How to join: register with Alain at alain-eric.mounolou@orange.fr before Tuesday 12 July.

If a number of us fancy the Batcub voyage, I’ll have to book with TBM. Return to Cité du Vin miay have to be with riverside bus.

Contact on D Day: (new number). Make sure you have Alain’s number with you.

Andernos Jazz Festival On the Beach Sunday 31st July

This year hails the return of the Andernos les Bains Jazz Festival after 2 years of covid restrictions. There is a full programme of concerts starting Thursday 29th July through to Sunday 31st July. There will be over fifteen different international and local artists/groups/bands performing at 4 open air venues around Andernos at different times throughout the weekend, and it’s all FREE!

The last concert of the festival takes place in the evening (20h45) on the beach next to the Bétey Port . This is quite a magical event where people sit on the sand and take in the sunset, the music, the ambiance, the warm night air and a glass or two of wine.

In previous years we have hosted a light bring and share early supper at my place before walking down to the beach in time to get a good patch of sand for the concert. So, if you are interested in joining us then please e-mail me at charleswaldren@aol.com

You can find out more detail about the festival at www.andernos-jazz-festival.fr

Eating your way to health with the Mediterranean Diet

Something to look forward to in September !

We are very lucky to count amongst our members, Richard Hoffman, who is a medical scientist.

He has written books on healthy eating, the Mediterranean diet and is willing to give us a talk on this subject.

So in the feel good and look good spirit of the Bordeaux British Community we are announcing the “Eating your way to health with the Mediterranean diet” on Saturday 10th of September starting at 10.30 am with a slide show and a talk from Richard followed by a culinary demonstration and a healthy lunch!

This will be a cosy outdoor event organised at 57 Chemin de Romfort, 33480 AVENSAN and all you have to do is bring your own drinks!

A small charge of 5€ will be asked for on the day to help cover the cost of the food.

Please let us know if you will be available to come before 31st July so we know the number of participants before the summer break.

For more details and registration please contact Catherine by email on eventsorgcm@bordeauxbritish.com or by phone on 06 56 82 92 43.

Friday 16th September 2022 at 12:00

We are organising a day out starting with lunch in a restaurant at Port Medoc (33123 Le Verdon sur Mer) followed by a boat trip in the afternoon aboard the vedette “La Boheme” to discover the Gironde Estuary.

DURATION : approximately 2h30 (non-stop)

COST : 26€ per person to be paid directly at the La Boheme Vedettes counter prior to embarking (A on photo of Port Medoc below)

Escape for a boat trip on the vedette “La Boheme” and admire the beauties of the Gironde estuary.

You will approach the Cordouan lighthouse , nicknamed the “Versailles of the sea”, which stands majestically at the entrance to the Gironde estuary. Built from 1584 to 1611, it was classified as a historic monument in 1862. It is the oldest lighthouse in France still in operation.

Then, glide on the waves of the estuary to discover the Devil’s Bridge, Saint-Palais-sur-Mer, Vaux-sur-Mer, Royan, Saint-Georges-de-Didonne, the tip of Suzac and the sumptuous cliffs of limestone from Meschers-sur-Gironde and the Talmont promontory.

The Meschers cliffs border the Gironde estuary. You will contemplate the troglodyte caves dug naturally for some and for others by the hand of man. Their occupation dates back to the Gallo-Roman period since then, they have always been inhabited. The promontory of Talmont, on which sits the Church of Sainte-Radegonde, is the unmissable gem of Saintonge Romanesque art, which was built in the 12th century by the monks of the Abbey of Saint-Jean-d’Angely.

Lunch will be at the restaurant “Le Bistrot du Port” (B on photo of Port Medoc below) and details of the menu and costs will be in the next newsletter.

If you are interested please contact Ian to book at : eventorgib@bordeauxbritish.com or on 06 22 69 81 70.
