Obituary : Annette Silcock (1944 – 2023)

Annette and David joined the BBC in 2018 when they moved from the country into
Bordeaux. From the start they both joined in with many events and we all soon realised
what a charming, talented couple they were. We quickly appreciated Annette’s
elegance, wide smile, red nails, red spectacles and love of books and opera.
Annette, born in South Africa, emigrated to Britain at an early age, and had worked and
travelled extensively in various professions. Her second diagnosis with cancer in 2022
debilitated her very quickly and she was cared for at home for some time prior to
ending her days in Marie Galène clinic.

She will be sadly missed but I know she wants us to remember her as she was and as
the poem read at her funeral says, “Go with friends we know, laugh at all the things we
used to do, miss me but let me go”.
Our sincere condolences go to David and their families.
