As you may remember, a couple of years ago, the BBC, along with three other organisations, the RBL (Royal British Legion Bordeaux & South West France Branch), the AFVBC (Aquitaine Armed Forces Veterans Breakfast Club) and the RAFA (Royal Air Force Association South West France) laid poppy crosses on all the 300 plus CWGC war graves in the Aquitaine region.
This was a one-off operation but does not stop these different organisations in their own right from continuing to visit the CWGC war graves to lay poppy crosses if they wish to do so.

You may also remember that at the 2024 BBC AGM it was decided that, and in honor of our dear friend, the late Chris Rankin, who along with his wife Deirdre organised the poppy cross laying at the Medoc cemeteries for many years, we would endeavor to continue this very worthwhile task at the Medoc and the Bordeaux cemeteries
This year again we are proposing to visit the Medoc cemeteries in June and the Bordeaux cemeteries in September and below are the proposed dates:
- Tuesday 9th June – Medoc Cemeteries
- Friday 25th September – Bordeaux Cemeteries
If you are free on one or both dates and would like to take part, please send me an email with your intentions to : ianb@bordeauxbritish.com
Looking forward to hearing from members wishing to participate.
