Walking

Toulouse-Lautrec Exhibition, Libourne. Wednesday 5th January, 2022

This will be a guided visit to Libourne « une bastide anglaise » with Alain including an exhibition called “Toulouse-Lautrec, la naissance d’un artiste”. You may participate in all or part of our day out in Libourne.

Libourne was founded in 1270 by Roger de Leyburn for King Edward I at the confluent of the Dordogne and the Isle (see Photo Aérienne France). It is a typical bastide which has kept it’s square plan, walls and a number of interesting buildings. The temporary exhibition at the Chapelle du Carmel museum (photo below) shows how René Princeteau, Toulouse-Lautrec’s Libourne-born master and family friend, influenced the young, lame aristocrat’s budding artistic carreer.

Alain will guide us around this historic town, explaining it’s history and showing us points of interest.  It’s an easy walk, the town centre being relatively small and compact.

Following the morning walk is an option to have lunch at a restaurant opposite the museum. The menu will be around 28 euros for a 3 course lunch.

Our guided visit of the Toulouse-Lautrec exhibition will be between 2.30pm to 3.30pm. The entrance to the Chapelle du Carmel museum and the tour will be 8€ for a group of 10 to 25 participants.
